Samurai Bamboo (Photo series)
A series of photos about a samurai with a flute from Japan and a master of calligraphy from Russia.
I would like to present to you a series of photographs that I took 5 years ago. Is hot a lot of film then and knew almost nothing about Japan. Was depressed. These people helped me find a new creative direction.
Koichi Nazarov Yoshida is a master of playing the traditional Japanese flute Shakuhachi. An instrument whose sound is unique and unlike anything. Ekaterina Nazarova Yoshida - Master of Japanese Calligraphy. The art of calligraphy requires the author to simultaneously focus and spontaneously perform. I first became acquainted with their work a year ago before that series was born at the Japanese festival in Moscow. My ears were captured by the depth and tranquility of the melody from the first notes, and my eyes could not tear myself away from the beauty and expressiveness of calligraphy. The more I listened and observed, the easier and calmer it became on my soul.
I will never forget two stories related to Koichi san. The first happened at a his concert when I called to listen to Japanese music of a black American. In order to somehow warm up his interest in strange music, we illegally drank beer under the table. And this is seriously angered the local bartender. This was illegal because in local bar the beer was already over. The music was so alien to my American friend.
The second story happened on the last joint day at the airport. The Japanese habit of cleaning the apartment to shine before leaving played a trick on Koichi. He had forgotten the money in the apartment and had already thrown the keys into the mailbox. The situation was getting worse by the fact that it took time to go through veterinary control (he flew with a dog). I heard the history of the money left when we was at the airport 3 hours before departure. I had to call more people, take a taxi several times, reassure his wife, who at that time was already in Japan, and somehow reassure myself. The story ended with a happy end, but I swore to send the Japanese to Japan.
5 years have passed since then. After creating this series, the author began his journey into the world of the Japanese language in order to escape from depression. The new work allowed me to save money, then to fly to Japan, rediscover myself, set the direction in my work, which you can observe in the form of this blog. Now I am writing these lines self-confident, having already visited the country of the rising sun 3 times.
As for our heroes ... Since then, our roads have not crossed. The year after the publication of the series, Koichi-san and Katya left for Japan on a far away southern island. At the moment, they are raising two sons and one nasty dog for me :)
